Nikki Balch, Sarah Conrad Latest Democracy 250 Youth Ambassadors April 18, 2008
Two more youth ambassadors have signed up to lend their talents and voices to the Democracy 250 initiative.
Nikki Balch, Z103.5 morning host, and Sarah Conrad, Nova Scotia's 2006 female athlete of the year, are taking the message about the importance of voting to young Canadians.
"I signed up the moment I heard what Democracy 250 was trying to achieve," said Ms. Balch. "When I found out that 75 per cent of young Canadians under 25 didn't vote in the last federal election, I knew I wanted to do my part to turn things around."
Ms. Conrad has packed up her snowboard and taken the Democracy 250 message along for the ride to Whistler B.C., where she is competing in the one of the world's largest snow boarding festivals.
"This is a fantastic opportunity to reach tens of thousands of young people from all over the world," said Ms. Conrad. "I'm amazed by the wonderful response Democracy 250 is receiving and really proud to be a Nova Scotian."
Ms. Balch and Ms. Conrad are the latest talented, young Nova Scotians to join in and make their mark. Other Democracy 250 youth ambassadors are:
-- Jordan Croucher
-- Dwight d'Eon
-- Chad Denny
-- Stephanie Hardy
-- Brad Marchand
-- Travis Price and DJ Shepherd (Pink Shirt Boys)
"Democracy 250's youth ambassadors are enthusiastic supporters who are helping spread the word about the value of democracy, the importance of voting, and how lucky we are to live in a free country," said Democracy 250 co-chair Russell MacLellan. "Having youth talk to youth about the need for engaged, active citizens who participate in their communities and vote is a great way to celebrate democracy."
