Democracy 250 Celebrates Canada Day in Ottawa, Halifax and Gatineau June 30, 2008
Democracy 250 will be front and centre in Ottawa and Halifax as Canadians gather to celebrate Canada Day on Tuesday, July 1.
In Ottawa, Democracy 250 co-chair Russell MacLellan will participate in official flag raising ceremonies on Parliament Hill and the Halifax 33rd Pipes and Drum Band will carry the D250 banner in the parade kicking off Canada's birthday celebrations.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to tell thousands of Canadians about celebrations marking a proud first for our province," said Mr. MacLellan. "Hopefully our presence will encourage more people to visit Nova Scotia and to learn about all that it contributed to Canada being one of the most admired and respected countries in the world."
Democracy 250 youth ambassadors Jordan Croucher and Stephanie Hardy will spread the D250 message and perform for audiences at Major's Hill Park, Ottawa and Jacques-Cartier Park, Gatineau, Que.
In Halifax, Democracy 250 co-chair John Hamm will participate in flag raising ceremonies on Citadel Hill.
The D250 Battle of the Bands contest will also take place at 3 p.m. in the Events Plaza, Alderney Landing, on the Dartmouth Waterfront. In the spirit of democracy, audience members will get a chance to vote on which youth band gets to take home the D250 People's Choice award.
